President Rick Russell called the meeting to order at 10:30 a.m.
New board members were introduced.
MINUTES: Debra Kroon moved to approve minutes of the April 16, 2025 meeting. The motion was seconded by Gini Obert, and was approved by those present.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Copies of the April 2025 Financial reports were made available by Treasurer Gilbert Plascencia. He noted that the 2025 plant sale actual net profit was $25,758, which is $13,888 more than was anticipated in the budget. He concluded by saying the Foundation has “plenty of cash” for the remainder of the year.
GREENHOUSE: Greenhouse co-leader Camille Smith reported on the loss of the outer layer of the big greenhouse. The outer layer was blown off the building two days after the plant sale. Camille said she has contacted a knowledgeable person in Seattle who plans to be working in the area in August and will include the YCMG greenhouse in his work schedule. Camille said she had contacted the manufacturer who said the covering was guaranteed for four years, and he pointed out it had lasted for over seven years.
APPRECIATION: Rick Russell thanked Sheila Gunderson for her service as an at-large representative on the board.
NEW BUSINESS: ANNUAL FINANCIAL REVIEW REPORT: John Strong reported on the annual internal financial review ofthe performance of the Foundation treasurer at his office. Dan Fortier, John Strong, Karen Fortier and Treasurer Gilbert Plascencia met and conducted a review. The outcome was satisfactory, John said.
OLD BUSINESS: STATE FOUNDATION REPORT: John Strong described the role of the Master Gardeners’ State Foundation. He encouraged local members to serve on the State Foundation Board. Each of the 26 chapters in the state foundation are entitled to have three representatives on the state board. The Mission of the state foundation is “to provide funding to advance the Master Gardener Program and education through horticultural-based research.”
The state foundation offers Master Gardeners from around the state the opportunity to participate in the annual Advanced Education Conference Sept.26-27. Registration for the conference opens June 1, and Early Bird registration is $109.
