Back to Food Garden classes

Many plants in your garden thrive with some support. Your indeterminate tomatoes tend to create a jungle in your garden if not controlled.  Keeping your veggies off the ground will help save them from disease and pests, and make it easier for you to move through your garden and maintain them. This session deals with how to manage these issues.

Tomato Pruning (Julie Hunziker)

Julie will talk about the benefits of pruning your tomato plants, when to begin, and how to maintain your pruning throughout the season. We hope to have some tomato plants at the right size to demonstrate the “how’s.” After learning the difference between determinate and indeterminate tomato plants, we will delve into the why’s, when’s, and how’s of pruning tomato plants.

Knot my garden (Darrell Monroe)

The knot session will be a hands-on learning experience using the cord we have used in the garden for two seasons.  You will have an opportunity to tie and untie, see the tying demonstrated and view tied examples. Different kinds of cordage will be discussed, as well as tools and several different knots to help you in your plant supports.
